Thanks to the generosity of local resident Gary Sawatsky
, a new bursary will be awarded in the name of St. Catharines music legend Fraser Loveman
, who passed away after a short illness in 2018. Mr. Loveman was the lead singer of the British Modbeats
, a St. Catharines band who burst onto the scene in 1967 with an unmistakable "British Invasion" sound that took North America by storm. Though the group was short-lived, their one album, "Mod is the British Modbeats", is to this day a watershed moment in Niagara music history.
Mr Sawatsky has established this bursary in memory of his good friend. The Fraser Loveman Memorial "Keep The Music Playing Award"
will be awarded at commencement in June, 2019 to a graduating student who plans on enrolling in post-secondary studies in music, either vocal or instrumental. This student will have demonstrated a creative mind and a love of music, and will be planning to pursue a career in the music industry, whether it be as a performer, producer, technician, composer etc.
