Military Co-op Info Session at Lake Street Armoury

What is the Army Coop program?

  • Entry Plan into the Canadian Armed Forces Primary Reserve
  • Army Reserves is a non-contractual service
  • Students will be enrolled as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces Reserve prior to the start of coop
  • Students are expected to continue their military Service on a part-time, volunteer basis after coop ends
    • Train with unit 1 Night/week, 1 weekend/month starting the September following COOP.
  • Summer Employment is available

Basic Eligibility (ACE):

  • Age:
    • 16-17 years and in school full-time with parental consent or
    • 18 years without parental consent
  • Citizenship:
    • Canadian citizenship is required
  • Education:
    • Minimum grade 10 level of education, 15 High School credits

COOP Information Session:

  • Sergeant Dylan Orr will be hosting a COOP information session at the Lake St Armoury in St Catharines at 81 Lake Street on Thursday, October 10th at 7pm. Any students who are interested or curious about the program are encouraged to attend and it’s open to parents and teachers as well. No registration required.

Overview:

  • Students receive 4 credits
  • February-June (no March break)
  • 8am-4pm, 5days a week
  • Weekly training is held at local armoury (student has to arrange their own transportation)
  • Paid placement- $96.06/day
  • Travel to local Canadian Forces Base for 3-4 weeks (travel is provided)
  • 1 Day a week for teachers to visit and talk to staff/student
  • Weekly written reports given to teachers outlining training and evaluations students have completed
  • Same training as any military course
  • Only selected occupations are available
  • Homework, tests, heavy course load

Training includes:

  • Regulations and general service knowledge
  • Fitness training
  • Dress, discipline and deportment
  • Teamwork and Leadership
  • First Aid
  • Navigation
  • Weapons handling on C7 Assault Rifle, C9 Light Machine Gun, C6 General Purpose Machine Gun, 84mm Carl Gustov, M72 Rocket Launcher, C13 Grenade, M203A1 Grenade Launcher
  • Soldier skills
  • Drill/Marching

Application Process:

After they apply online AND contact a recruiter interested applicants will be contacted for testing.

Testing includes an aptitude test, medical, interview, physical fitness test and a background check.
